Catastrophic car accident shuts down Texas highway

Catastrophe affected numerous families over the Thanksgiving holiday this year after at least a 100 car pile-up in Texas. The car accident occurred on I-10 and troopers believe that several dozen people were injured. Dense fog around the area and high speed has been blamed for the car accident.

The crash resulted in a chain-reaction that occurred soon after the first car crashed. There were four separate wrecks that contributed to the massive pile-up. Over 100 vehicles were involved and several of those vehicles were tractor-trailers and a minimum of one tanker. Emergency services begin to be flooded with calls in the morning.

By 9:30 in the morning the freeway had been shut in both directions. Unfortunately, one couple lost their lives in the crash after their Chevy SUV was hit by an 18-wheeler. Dozens of people sustained major injuries, many of them critical. In all, 51 people were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Out of those people, eight were suffering from critical injuries.

When officers responded to the emergency calls, they apparently had no idea they were dealing with multiple crashes because of the dense fog. One officer called the wreckage, 'catastrophic,' and stated they were vehicles resting on top of other cars. Texas weather can often be unpredictable, so it is important for drivers to be flexible and adapt to those conditions by lowering their speed or showing further caution while on the road. Doing so could help avoid a catastrophic car accident like this one. So far there has been no word on whether any personal injury lawsuits are on the horizon, but with the number of injuries and damage involved, it could only be a matter of time.
