Texas car accident kills 1, driver arrested and charged

Every year, thousands of people are touched by drunk driving tragedies. The impact of those crashes not only affects a victim's family, but also touches their friends, co-workers and others. Texas drivers who make the decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol and cause a deadly car accident may end up facing criminal charges and a civil lawsuit.

A recent car accident has taken the life of a man in Houston. The accident occurred in the early morning hours and involved three vehicles. Reports indicate that a Ford Expedition struck the rear of a Nissan Altima when the Expedition driver was unable to control the speed of his vehicle. Both vehicles were traveling northbound at the time. After the first impact, the SUV crossed over the highway median directly into southbound traffic.

The driver then crashed into a van driven by the victim. Although no one else sustained any injuries, the van driver passed away at the crash scene. Once authorities were able to determine that the driver of the Expedition had been drinking, he was taken into custody and is now facing intoxicated manslaughter charges.

Drunk driving tragedies are unfortunately all too common. While it is possible that the Texas driver could receive a jail-term if a conviction is secured in his case, for many families, a criminal punishment is not enough. When families feel that more justice should be meted out, they can turn to the civil courts and seek relief in the form of a wrongful death lawsuit. A civil case will not turn the clock back, but it can add additional justice against the person deemed responsible for the car accident death of their loved one.
