Children, especially babies, are some of the most vulnerable members of our society. They also happen to be some of the most marketed-to members of our society. New parents are told they need this baby product and that baby product in order to keep their child healthy, happy and safe. However, these companies often only care about their bottom line and safety concerns are common with children's products.
When children's and baby's products are unsafe, serious injuries can occur that can effect children for the rest of their lives. In some cases, serious injuries can even lead to death if products do not meet product safety standards. In cases where a product fails to live up to expectations, companies will sometimes offer a consumer recall in order to keep those products away from Texas consumers.
Recently, Playtex has issued a recall over a pacifier clip. According to reports, the clips can be defective and crack. In some instances, the company claims that these cracks have led to pieces falling off of the clip. These small pieces are a choking hazard for the babies and toddlers that use these clips on a daily basis. Reports claim that more than a million of these clips have been sold throughout the United States. The Consumer Safety Commission has asked parents to stop using this product with their small children.
Children are not the only consumers in Texas to be put at risk by products. Every day, companies produce and sell products - including defective medical devices - that are unsafe for people to use, and people get hurt. When injuries occur because of a dangerous product, consumers should know that they have rights. Under product liability laws, the company may be financially responsible for any injuries caused by defective products.
