3 common Easter injuries

Whether Easter represents a religious celebration for you or it is simply a day of family togetherness, there are some hazards to avoid. With some planning and preparation, you should be able to avoid three common Easter injuries.

No matter their family upbringing or history of family tradition, most people don't consider Easter a dangerous holiday. It usually signifies the return of spring and nature's rebirth. Flowers bloom, grass begins to grow and animals emerge from their winter hibernation.

And children get hurt.

With some preparation, common-sense planning and attention paid to your party guests, you can avoid the three most common Easter-related injuries.

1. Food poisoning: Whether your party is potluck-style or you have prepared a feast for all of your party-goers, underprepared food or expired ingredients are a very real possibility. Unfortunately, this can be devastating to those who eat the food. From an upset stomach to vomiting, people can suffer a wide range of negative reactions to undercooked food.

2. Nut allergies: Kids will naturally gravitate toward candy. They might not recognize the dangers that they face from allergic reactions to peanuts and other tree nuts. Reactions can run the gamutfrom a simple rash to anaphylaxis.

3. Physical injuries: From kids running around playing to children crashing into each other while on an Easter Egg Hunt, the physical danger is real. Twisted ankles, torn cartilage or other soft-tissue injuries can have painful, long-lasting results.

By planning ahead and warning the other party-goers to potential danger, you can avoid a wide range of problems.
