Car accidents: multi-vehicle crash claims 3

Three people are dead following a multi-vehicle crash on Texas 105 Eastbound, and one of the drivers involved has been arrested, according to local sources. Police arrested a 37-year-old man who struck multiple vehicles with his truck while he was apparently intoxicated. Given that DUI car accidents are so avoidable, it seems likely that if convicted he will face serious criminal consequences.

According to the accident report, the man's 18-wheeler was headed west when it struck a car that was stopped in traffic on 105 East. The first vehicle he hit rammed into the vehicle in front of it. The two individuals in the first vehicle, aged 67 and 77, were killed in the collision.

A woman and her infant in the second car also suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a local hospital. While the infant is in unknown condition at this time, the woman later died at the hospital. The driver of the truck now stands charged with felony counts of DUI, manslaughter and injuring a child. No court date has yet been set for him.

If the man is found guilty of the multiple charges filed against him, as with many car accidents caused by DUI, he will likely face serious jail time. In addition, Texas state law allows the families of the deceased to file wrongful death charges against the driver and possibly also his company as an entity with ownership interest in the truck. These filings would be handled by a state civil court separate from the criminal proceedings.
