Fatal motor vehicle accidents: Woman charged with murder in Texas

Following the death of a motorcyclist on the afternoon of May 7, a woman in Houston is facing serious charges. The Texas resident faces a murder charge after a five-vehicle crash police say was the result of driving under the influence. Fatal motor vehicle accidents brought on by DUI are taken very seriously by the state, and they often result in serious criminal charges being filed.

According to the accident report, the woman was apparently involved in two minor hit-and-run collisions the same evening, although no injuries were incurred in those accidents. The individuals involved in those crashes reportedly followed the woman in an attempt to exchange insurance information. Those individuals then became witness to the crash that killed a motorcyclist.

Apparently, five vehicles were involved in this crash, although details about the specifics of the accident have not been released at this time. The woman has been charged with a variety of infractions, including murder. Prosecutors say the combination of her intoxicated state and the fact that she had two young children in the car with her at the time of the crash have led to the severity of the charges.

If she is found guilty of the charges filed against her, she could face considerable jail time for her role in the crash. Texas authorities take fatal motor vehicle accidents very seriously, especially in cases in which intoxication is deemed a contributing factor. The family of the deceased man will also be entitled under state law to file a wrongful death lawsuit against her in civil court. Given the array of evidence pointing to her culpability in this case, such a suit may stand a good chance of being won.
