5 top tips to avoid distracted driving

As a driver, you're well aware of the fact that it's easy to become distracted at any point. If you let this happen, there's a greater chance that you could cause an accident. Fortunately, you can change your approach to ensure that you never become distracted while behind the wheel. As a result, you don't have to worry about causing an accident because you weren't paying attention to the road.

Here are several tips that will help you avoid distracted driving;

-- Turn off your smartphone. If you don't have access to this technology you won't be tempted to use it.

-- Use a hands free device. If you must use your smartphone in the car, make sure you take advantage of hands free technology.

-- Don't pay attention to passengers. There may be times when you need to converse with others, such as a child in the backseat, but do your best to keep this to a minimum.

-- Don't reach for your navigation system or radio controls. When you do this, it's easy to take your eyes off the road. Instead, set it the way you want before you put your car in drive.

If you follow these five tips, you will find it easier to avoid distracted driving.

The only bad thing about this advice is that you can't control what other drivers are doing. So, while you are doing your best to focus on the road, others may be speaking on their cellphone and fumbling with the radio.

If you're involved in an accident with a distracted driver, you should contact an ambulance, receive medical treatment, and then learn more about your legal rights.
