Are you familiar with the 3 types of distracted driving?

As a driver, you need to do whatever it takes to keep your eyes on the road. It only takes one distraction to cause a serious accident. While you're paying attention to the road, keep in mind that others may not be doing the same. As a result, you could be involved in a crash despite the fact that you did nothing wrong.

Understanding the three primary types of distracted driving is important:

-- Cognitive distraction. Also known as mental distraction, this is when your mind is not on the road. Instead, you're thinking about something else, such as a conversation you're having with a backseat passenger.

-- Visual distraction. This is when you take your eyes off the road, such as to adjust the radio, pick up your cellphone or reach for a drink.

-- Manual distraction. As the name suggests, this entails taking one or both hands off of the steering wheel. There are many reasons drivers do this, such as to send a text message or put an address into their GPS system.

Every type of distracted driving is dangerous. This is why you should do two things:

-- Make it your goal to avoid distractions when you're behind the wheel.

-- Pay attention to other drivers, knowing that you need to keep your distance from those who are distracted.

If you're involved in an accident with a distracted driver, don't hesitate to contact police to ensure that a report is written. From there, take the necessary steps in receiving compensation for any injuries and/or damage.
